It was Monday 3rd February at about 7pm, I had just put Jack to bed and then I peed on the obligatory life changing stick, then we waited – until there it was, the two faint pink lines.
I knew straight away that it was a positive result, but Shane didn’t believe it because the lines were so faint. So off I went, to two supermarkets at 8pm at night, trying to find the digital test to give the definitive pregnant result, which later on that night is exactly what we got (obviously!).
We stood there in the kitchen staring at the test result, then I looked up and saw the family room filled with Jacks toys, and that was it – I was a blubbering mess! I don’t know if it was just pure shock of how quickly I’d fallen pregnant, excitement, happiness or maybe a little bit of fear about the huge adjustment that we were all about to face, but once those tears started they didn’t stop for a while!
So, that was that, I was pregnant, but very early on (only about 3 weeks!). It was just lovely for Shane and I to be in our own tiny little bubble of excitement, not telling a soul for about 2 weeks. After that we told the parents, siblings and those closest to us. A lot of people wait until 12 weeks and I totally get why, but there’s just no way we would have been able to keep it a secret for that long! Jack and the kiddos in the family were kept in the dark until after the scan, but that’s a story for another day.
I’m 16 weeks now and boy have those 16 weeks been tough! When I was pregnant with Jack I had such bad sickness that I couldn’t even keep water down and at its peak ended up having to go in to hospital to be put on a drip, so in the back of my mind I was terrified that was going to happen again. Luckily this time round there’s been no hospital trips, but the sickness has lasted a hell of a lot longer, the nauseousness has only just started to wear off this week. Round ligament pain has been quite horrific too, to the point that even a sneeze would make me yelp, so painful! Hopefully I’m over the worst of it now that I’m in to the second trimester, I’m just waiting for that burst of energy and the pregnancy glow…let’s hope that turns up soon!
My bump has officially popped which I’m absolutely loving, showing so much earlier than in my last pregnancy, even at 12 weeks it was hard to hide the bump. I’m already embracing all the body-con, not that I’ve been anywhere, because, ya know, lockdown!
There we go, let’s see what the next few months bring, hopefully I’ll be able to get out and about and actually see my family and friends during this pregnancy! And I’m desperate to take Jack to the shops so he can buy the baby a little teddy for his new little brother or sister, a job that he’s already taking very seriously!
